16 Feb 2010. French mime artist Laurent Decol is in Addis Ababa with a new show created in honour of his master, Marcel Marceau, one of the greatest mime artists of all time. Decol has already taken this show to 100 countries in a total of 2,000 performances. 20.00. more

15 Feb-1 March 2010. Paintings by Berlin-based Ethiopian artist Engedaget Legesse explore the theme of empty rooms. Legesse studied at the school of fine art in Addis Ababa before moving to Berlin in 2005. He has exhibited his work widely in solo and group shows in Ethiopia and Europe. 13-24 Feb 2010. This year the annual European Film Festival in Addis Ababa has been organized by the Spanish embassy in conjunction with the delegation of the European Union to Ethiopia. The two-week programme includes a combination of blockbuster movies and independent productions giving an overview of European cinema. Movies will be screened at the Alliance Ethio-Française, Italian Cultural Institute and the Matti Multiplex cinema at Edna Mall opposite Bole Medhanealem Church. Fashion show at the Alliance Ethio-Française

5 Feb 2010. Young Ethiopian fashion designer Abebayehu Tafese displays samples of his work. The show will also feature pieces by guest designer Joséphine Mandera from Uganda. Born in Bure, western Ethiopia, in 1987, Tafese has exhibited his work on various occasions including at the International Fashion Show at the Hotel Harmony in Addis Ababa in 2008. This is his first appearance at the Alliance Ethio-Française. more

Ethiopian artist Tulu Guya returns to the Alliance Ethio-Française after an absence of 37 years with a body of work focusing on the men and women of Ethiopia, who are represented in his unique graphic style. 28 Jan 2010. The Italian Cultural Institute in Addis Ababa is screening the 2007 movie Fine Pena Mai by Davide Barletti and Lorenzo Conte, starring Claudio Santamaria and Valentina Cervi. The action is set in the southern Italian region of Puglia and focuses on local organised crime. In Italian with English subtitles. 18.30. more
Addis Ababa electric power show

20-24 Jan 2010. This is the first ever trade fair in Addis Ababa dedicated to electric power production and supply. It will bring together representatives of the public and private sectors and universities and technical colleges to share information and ideas about how to optimise electric power. Ethiopia is suffering from a severe power shortage due to rapid growth in demand. The governemnt hopes to mitigate the shortfall with a number of ambitious hydroelectric power projects and there are also plans to build a wind farm in the northern Tigray region. more
