Ethiopia gets new telephone directory
State telecommunications provider Ethiopian Telecommunication Corporation (ETC) has finally launched its 2009 telephone directory over a year behind schedule due to contractual problems with the publisher.
The new directory, published by Africa Phone Books, comprises 100,000 print copies – 70,000 in English and 30,000 in Amharic – and 200,000 copies on CD-Rom, which are to be distributed free of charge. The directory information is also available on the website http://ethiopiabook.com/, which the publisher says will be updated every three-four months.
Africa Phone Books is owned by Groupe 2H, a company specialising in advertising, publishing and communications that also owns Anypol, Asia Phone Books, Miss Tahiti, Novavision and Obapub. It is registered in French Polynesia and it currently publishes telephone directories in 28 African countries, with seven more due to be added to its portfolio shortly.
